When one relocates to a new country, it is expected that certain products may be challenging to find, or perhaps not be available at all. Nonetheless, this is all part of the adventure.
I was taken aback, however, by the difficulty I encountered in finding a bra that not only supported my natural curves, but was also pretty and looked stylish.
I soon realized that bras in the United States were categorized into two distinct groups.
The first being the ‘everyday bra’ which is plain and intended to be as invisible as possible.
The second is the overly ‘sexualized bra’ which contains padding that exceeds one's bust size, existing solely to satisfy someone else's desire.
Let's shift our mindset: lingerie is about empowering yourself, not to satisfy others- that's just the icing on the cake.
Investing in quality lingerie is the ultimate act of self-care and here's why: your undergarments provide the foundation for every outfit. In essence, they contribute to the comfort, elegance, and overall mood for the day.
To help you find the perfect lingerie, here is my guide:
1- Know your bra size. I understand it may sound absurd, but I used to work for a prestigious lingerie company and I have to admit that between 80% and 90% of my clients did not know their size.

2- Know the lifespan of your bras. You cannot keep the same bra for 14 years, as was the case for one of my clients. As a friendly reminder, bras are a support tool, and fabric stretches; hence bras stretch too. At around six to nine months, the plastic fibers in the band and straps begin to deteriorate, causing the bra to lose shape. Therefore, it's best to start thinking about getting a new bra at that point. However, with gentle care - a delicate wash and no dryer - your bras can last longer.
3- Consider which shapes and styles will suit your body. Purchase the silhouettes you will wear most and that will flatter your figure. Remember, clothes are made to fit you, not the other way around.
4- Don't be afraid of color. Have fun with brighter shades under your outfit. It's an instant mood booster. You deserve to feel like a queen every day, so why not spice things up with a pop of color or a bold pattern? Trust me- a fun and flirty bra can instantly boost your mood and add some excitement to your day.
